Cornhole Boards for Tailgating

We continue to look at different types of cornhole/bean bag toss games here on the Cornhole Express Blog. Make sure you check us out on Twitter.

Most die hard cornholers won't play on anything other than a set of boards that has been made to fit the standards of the American Cornhole Organization. That is fine for the pros, but for those more interested in playing cornhole before a football game or NASCAR event, those professional sized boards can be hard to transport and are a pain to lug around to the tailgate sight. Here is the perfect alternative:

TAILGATE SIZE CORNHOLE
While the standard size and materials set forth by the American Cornhole Organization is 4 ft. long by 2 ft. wide, cornhole boards also come in "tailgate size." Tailgate size cornhole boards are 3 ft long by 2 ft long. Other than size, tailgate sized cornhole boards can be made from materials other than those used for the Professional cornhole boards.

Stroll through the tailgaters at the next event and you'll notice a lot of players using boards that are made out of 2 X 4's and plywood. Check out some great free cornhole board / bean bag toss board plans over at another popular sight, cornholeplayers.net. And stay tuned for more info on cornhole boards & cornhole bags.

Target Toss Pro: Bags - Simply the Best

We want to hear from you...What is your best Target Toss Pro: Bags score and what establisment did you toss it at? If you don't remember your score, just tell us where you think the best place to play Target Toss Pro: Bags is. We might feature you. And be sure to follow both @CornholeholeExpress & @TargetTossPro on Twitter.

Thank you Incredible Technologies for bringing Target Toss Pro: Bags into our lives. Not every tailgater can make it into the stadium. But for those fans, not all is lost, especially if your favorite sports bar has Target Toss Pro: Bags!

If you own a sports bar in Cornhole Country, or anywhere for that matter, and don't have one of these arcade style games, it is totally lost revenue. But that's not the point of this blog. The point of this cornhole blog is to introduce to the masses, the best arcade cornhole game there is.

Target Toss Pro: Bags is just as addicting as the real thing, simply because it is as close to the real thing as one can get. Keeping the charm of cornhole yet incorporating the "This time I'm gonna hole it" challenge of a real cornhole game. Target Toss Pro: Bags is the perfect alternative to the real deal.

You can play in any weather condition with crazy wind and challenging skill games. You have total control of the bags with different toss styles such as flop, slide, and bounce. And there is even a tournament mode for up to 16 players. Did we mention, just like the real cornhole game, you can play Target Toss Pro with a beer in hand.

Incredible Technologies even keeps a Bags Hall of Fame on their Web site. Players from around the country send in their photos with their winning scores to be slated one of the best Target Toss Pro Baggers around. They have yet to have anyone toss a perfect game. Will it be you?

All in all, Target Toss Pro: Bags is by far the best Cornhole style arcade game that any one of us here at Cornhole Express has ever played…drunk or sober. If your favorite sports bar doesn't have one of these games, demand they get one.

Just as sports bars have made us all better fans by bringing the game to us, Target Toss Pro has made us all better tailgaters by bringing the party in the lot to our favorite sports bar spot! (Yeah, we rhyme sometimes.)

Cornhole Boards - Great Summer DIY...but ok to Buy too

Over the next few weeks, we will be going over the differences in cornhole board materials and cornhole board sizes. As well as anything that has to do with cornhole...including arcade games. Yes, including video and arcade games. Building or buying cornhole boards can be confusing if you don't know what your looking for.

Want to have a little fun during these dog days of summer? Yeah, so do we – that's why we play cornhole. We have been posting about this fun outdoor game for awhile now, and think you should give it a try. A lot of cornhole players build their own cornhole boards. If you're looking for the regulation cornhole board dimensions, we have them here. Cornhole board dimensions are pretty standard between two styles – Regulation Cornhole Size and Tailgate Size. Building a set of cornhole boards can be a great weekend Do-It-Yourself project. You should be able to run down to your local Home Depot or Lowes and get all the supplies you'll need for this project. For all you Dads out there, this is a great project to work on with your son or daughter while enjoying some time together.

If the summer days are flying by you as they are flying by us, it's ok to buy a set of cornhole boards from someone who makes them. There are many retailers that build cornhole boards for you. Be careful though. Not all cornhole boards are created equal. Be sure to understand the different kinds of cornhole boards. We'll be going over the different styles of cornhole boards in the coming weeks – so stay tuned. Cornhole come in a range of materials. Everything from plastic boards (kids only please) to high quality finished wood cornhole boards. Also, there are different strengths. Some are light weight while others are sturdier and are of heavier build. They can be painted with your favorite school logo or just left without paint. It's totally up to you.

Cornhole is a great game to enjoy in the backyard, at a tailgate, or during a fundraiser. Anyone can play and more often then not, most people become addicted…so BEWARE: Cornholing in large quantities can result in addiction.

AIRMAIL SPOTLIGHT is on Akhia

This week's "AIRMAIL SPOTLIGHT" is on Hudson, OH based Akhia PR & Marketing.

Looking for ways to have fun and raise money for local organizations, Akhia decided to have a "physical challenge" with a CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT.

If you're having/had a Cornhole Tournament and would like to be featured on the CORNHOLE EXPRESS "Airmail Spotlight" - shoot us an email.

Congratulations Akhia, on your successful event!!! Here's what they had to say about their cornhole tournament:

Bean bag toss took on a whole new meaning with the 2nd AKHIA Challenge a cornhole tournament. Like our last physical challenge, we raised money to purchase cans of food for the Akron and Cleveland Food Banks. To enter, each team was asked to make a donation of $30 with all proceeds going toward the purchase canned goods.

With team names like "Corn Stars," "Rough Cuts" and "Dirty Sack Tossers," the completion really heated up. Ultimately, "Someone Better" beat out "The Gushers" in a close final game. From the challenge, AKHIA raised more than $600 to donate to the Food Banks.

Get Cornhole on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon!!

When discussing his trip to the White House on NBC's Late Night, Jimmy Fallon talks about his BBQ with the President. As part of the BBQ Fallon learned the great game of cornhole. Even though it looked like he was playing on plastic cornhole boards, he's enjoying the game none the less.

Fallon gets a little red in the cheeks when he finds out the real name of cornhole. That's ok Jimmy...we forgive you. However, don't you think if you can play beer pong on the show it would only be appropriate to play a game of Cornhole on Late Night? We think you should!! Cornhole and Beer Pong go hand in hand in the college life, especially at any tailgate party. Maybe even have musical guests Rhett & Link sing their Cornhole Song for you. Just think about, producers...

Check out the clip of Jimmy learning about cornhole on the July 13th show:
EDIT: Jimmy Fallon clip has been moved off Hulu.

Regulation Cornhole Dimensions

The official Cornhole board dimensions set forth by the American Cornhole Organization are as follows for a non-sanctioned set of Cornhole board platforms. There are some small differences from their "Tournament" Cornhole board dimensions. For the most part the dimensions below are what most people use when making their boards.

1. Each board is a 48" x 24" rectangle.
2. Each Cornhole should be 6" in diameter, centered 9" from the top of the board and 12" from each side edge.
3. The front of the board should be 3"-4" from bottom to top, about a 90-degree angle to the ground.
4. The back of the board should be 12" from bottom to top, about a 90-degree angle to the ground.
5. The playing surface should be finish-sanded to a smooth texture. There should be no blemishes in the wood surface that might disrupt or distort play.
6. The playing surface can be painted with a high gloss latex paint or varnish. The surface should allow bags to slide when thrown, but not so slippery that bags slide back down the platform.

The above picture is from the ACA's web site. It's a pretty good guide to use when building your first set of Cornhole boards.

Official Rules of Cornhole

Like tennis, cornhole can be played by doubles or singles. If doubles are playing, teams of two partners will be playing against another team of two partners. One partner stands by one of the cornhole boards, while the other stands facing him next to the other cornhole board.

Team 1's player will pitch a bean bag first, followed by Team 2's player. After all four bags have been pitched, scores are totaled and the other partners alternate turns.

Points are tallied after each inning of play, which is after each Team has pitched all there bags. A bag in the hole is worth 3 points, while a bag on the board is worth 1.

The score follows a cancellation format, which means nothing more than, if Team 1 makes one bag in the whole, and so does Team 2, no points are awarded that inning. Another example would be if Team 1 has three bags on the board and Team 2 has one bag on the board, then Team 1 is awarded 2 points.

Did ya get all that? It's not as complicated as it sounds. Here's an example that might help:

Team 1: Benny & Bill
Team 2: Jenny & Jill

Benny and Jenny stand on either side of one cornhole board. Bill and Jill each are by the other cornhole board on the same side as there partners. (Facing their partners)

Benny pitches his first bag and makes it in the hole, which is worth three points. (3-0) Jenny pitches her first bag and makes it as well, which cancels out the points Benny earned on his first shot. (0-0) Benny misses completely on his second toss. Jenny makes it in the hole on her second toss. (0-3) Benny lands one on the board on his third toss, which cancels out one of Jenny's points, because a bag on the board is worth one point. (0-2) Jenny misses completely on her third toss. (0-2) Benny tosses his final bag and makes it on the board, which cancels out another of Jenny's points. (0-1) Jenny tosses her fourth and final bag and gets it in the hole. Her shot is worth three points. The score is now 0-4, with Jenny and Jill in the lead.

Now it is Bill and Jill's turn. Jill will go first because her team was the last team to score.

Were you able to follow? If not, don't fret. When you get in the backyard with a drink in one hand and a set of bean bags in the other things will just start to flow.

Check out the American Cornhole Association's website for further instructions.

Enjoy!!

Addicting Online Cornhole Game

I found this totally addicting online game of Cornhole. I've already wasted a couple hours playing. Check it out.

Enjoy and keep Cornholing!!

All Aboard...The Cornhole Express!

I never thought I'd be blogging about Cornhole. The first time I heard the game, that I knew as Bags or Bean Bags, called Cornhole I thought to myself, "Really? Cornhole? Really? What kind of name is that?" I swore to myself I'd never become one of those people that normally called it Cornhole...Well, here we are. I've been bit by the Cornhole bug and now I'm blogging about non other than the great Cornhole.

The first time I played "Bean Bags" was in high school at a friend's party. Like many people, it was love at first toss. I totally sucked it up because of my lack of experience, but I was having a blast. It didn't stop there. College brought a whole other level of Cornhole playing. The Saturday morning ritual of Bags, Beer, and Football!!! Nothing like it. I guess it was during those college years that I let the word Cornhole slip into my vocabulary. I'd catch myself every now and then before I finally said, "To hell with it." Cornhole is here to stay.

After making my own set of Cornhole Boards and using them for tailgating season and even in the backyard during family BBQs, I have deciding to plunge into blogging and follow Cornhole a little more. We'll see how it goes. Maybe it's just me looking forward to the upcoming college football season, or maybe it's just my undeniable love for the occasional game of Cornhole. Either way I've decided to jump on the Cornhole Express and take a ride. How bout you?
